What Price, Wonderland? – It Is True It Is Shakey

January 21, 2014

This is some seriously underrated shit. I wasn’t in Melbourne when they played but I heard it was not well attended and that makes me sad.

They’re kind of like the British Sinaloa. Which is another band (I think?) that’s not together any more. What I’m trying to get at is emo is dead to me now.

Some San Francisco Dream Pop/Shoegaze/easy listening/whatever. The song “Careless Teens” is pretty cool to listen to with headphones on a mostly empty evening train.

Edison – Astro EP

January 10, 2014

I meant to post this when Loma Prieta came to town and I was really excited about Melbourne Screamo but then I forgot. They played with Loma at the Gasometer (RIP) and it was probably the best set at the show because they didn’t have vocals for Loma’s slot which was weird. And because Edison is really good live. I’m not sure if they’re still around, I can’t find a Facebook for them and my visa ran out so I don’t live in Melbourne any more.

CELESTE – ANIMALE(S) Part I & II

January 9, 2014

celeste-animale

We’ve had CELESTE on here before, ex-Mihai Edrisch members, et cetera et cetera. CELESTE keeps getting darker and darker every record and normally I’m not into the super heavy shit but they pull it off and you should really give these guys a listen if you have ignored them for the past five or whatever.

P.S. Worldpolice is never dead.

3717952537-1So first off, apologies for the huge delay. I’m the only one that cares about this blog these days and my Mediafire account got banned (enjoy those 404 links).

We posted Charlottefield before and they rule. This does too.

HṚṢṬA – Discography

July 20, 2012

We took a brief hiatus from new releases we like to “classics” we like. HRSTA for all of you who aren’t familiar is a project from Mike Moya. He left GY!BE (and then came back when they got back together). HRSTA uses a lot of whispery thin vocals and unconventional sounds, like mock-theremins with a screwdriver on the fretboard of a guitar. Unfortunately it looks like they’re on a bit of a break.

Olafur Arnalds – Living Room Songs

July 16, 2012

We’ve featured Olafur before and filed him under “people our age who make us feel shit about ourselves.”

Likely you’ve heard of him if you’ve listened to anyone name drop post rock groups or are into Neo-Classical at all.

This collection of songs was recorded over a period of seven days where he recorded one song in his living room a day. You can hear the floor boards creak if you’re listening closely enough.

This release doesn’t disappoint compared to his previous releases, and he’s probably my favourite composer yet. He’s said he tries, and I think he achieves, bringing classical music to t-shirt and jeans folk. Also, fun fact, he drummed in a Hardcore band “Fighting Shit” before he started composing.
