HṚṢṬA – Discography

July 20, 2012

We took a brief hiatus from new releases we like to “classics” we like. HRSTA for all of you who aren’t familiar is a project from Mike Moya. He left GY!BE (and then came back when they got back together). HRSTA uses a lot of whispery thin vocals and unconventional sounds, like mock-theremins with a screwdriver on the fretboard of a guitar. Unfortunately it looks like they’re on a bit of a break.

Del Ray – A Pyramid for the Living

May 27, 2010

This was one of those albums where I listened to it and said “Good, they didn’t fuck it up by singing.”

Worrytrain – Fog Dance, My Moth Kingdom

May 26, 2010

It kind of sounds like a movie soundtrack sometimes but it’s okay. Definitely the kind of music you’d be into if you’re into incredibly depressing stuff.

Cloud Archive – Left the Bright Opening

May 22, 2010

I met the ex-guitarist from this band completely out of the blue. Living in a small Alaskan town, it’s a pretty freak coincidence that he happened to live in the same area as me (albeit he was moving back to San Fransisco the next week). They’re a pretty energetic band, and in the words of their ex-guitarist really “kick ass since I moved.”

Most notable part in this album I believe is the prolific guitar.

Neil on Impression – L’oceano Delle Onde Che Restano Onde Per Sempre

May 20, 2010

This gorgeous album is put out by none other than Italy’s Neil on Impression. Everything from the album artwork to the sound that they deliver is spectacular. It’s hard to believe that they are composed from members of Raein sometimes.

And So I Watch You From Afar – Tonight the City Burns

May 19, 2010

This fairly popular Irish band really creates a really nice climb up to a wall of sound that puts the “rock” in Post-Rock, and are able to maintain it well. I’m not sure I care for when they have guest vocalists in the album, but as a band by themselves they are solid.

Giants – Old Stories

May 16, 2010

A welcome break from the Hardcore with a Post-Rock record, Giants keeps it simple with a traditional Post-Rock setup and a few climactic moments in their songs. Vaguely familiar to This Will Destroy You, Giants put’s out a nice record.

Canyonsofstatic – The Disappearance

February 26, 2010

Not only did I find it fitting to post a band that was named after a Godspeed song on a blog named after a Godspeed song, but the band kind of grows on you. It’s a much more uplifting sound than a lot of other Post Rock bands, and a little Shoegazey.
