Olafur Arnalds – Living Room Songs

July 16, 2012

We’ve featured Olafur before and filed him under “people our age who make us feel shit about ourselves.”

Likely you’ve heard of him if you’ve listened to anyone name drop post rock groups or are into Neo-Classical at all.

This collection of songs was recorded over a period of seven days where he recorded one song in his living room a day. You can hear the floor boards creak if you’re listening closely enough.

This release doesn’t disappoint compared to his previous releases, and he’s probably my favourite composer yet. He’s said he tries, and I think he achieves, bringing classical music to t-shirt and jeans folk. Also, fun fact, he drummed in a Hardcore band “Fighting Shit” before he started composing.

Worrytrain – Fog Dance, My Moth Kingdom

May 26, 2010

It kind of sounds like a movie soundtrack sometimes but it’s okay. Definitely the kind of music you’d be into if you’re into incredibly depressing stuff.

├ôlafur Arnalds – Variations of Static

December 28, 2009

Building upon our previous post of this Icelandic genius, here’s an EP. How is this guy only four, five years older than the two of us, and so successful? Insert masturbatory rant about how beautiful his pieces are, et cetera.
